ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the links between tobacco harms and infectious diseases. The objectives of the United Against Tobacco and COVID campaign includes: drawing new attention to the harms of tobacco, promoting smoking cessation, and changing smoking-related behaviors, all with a goal of reducing rates of tobacco-related illness and death in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The campaign disseminates targeted communication messages to support and encourage these tobacco control objectives. The positive effects of anti-smoking media campaigns have been well documented.

United Against Tobacco and COVID is a partnership of Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Vital Strategies. The campaigns created, were designed to be country-specific and culturally appropriate.
